Burnette, in the vandalism of four synagogues in a New York neighborhood, has been arrested and charged with “numerous” hate crimes, authorities said.
The doors and windows of several Riverdale synagogues have been smashed in recent weeks and a vandal was caught on camera Monday throwing rocks at the Riverdale Jewish Center. Police said he was the same person seen on surveillance video elsewhere.
Burnette was stopped by the NYPD around 3 a.m. Saturday on Delafield Avenue after he rode his bike against the flow of traffic, Corey said.
Police took him to District 50 after he did not cooperate and did not provide identification, she said.
Officers returned to the area where he was detained, found a van with a broken windshield and then surveillance video that allegedly showed Burnette throwing a rock at him, police said. In the parking lot of the nearby conservative Adath Israel Synagogue, police found prayer books scattered on the ground.
The synagogue caretaker told police that the bicycle Burnette was on matched one that had been stolen from there.

Additional photos and videos of the suspect released by police showed a man in what appeared to be the same coat.
Three other synagogues in Riverdale also had windows broken by thrown stones, police said.
