Who is Johnna Rhone ?

A 59-year-old Detroit art teacher was charged with posting false notes under the doors of three classrooms at her own school warning that she would be bombed by a terrorist.

Johnna Rhone wrote at least three notes with threatening language last week at Jefferson High School in St. Clair Shores, Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said.

One of the notes read: ‘Begin to rest early. It will. Don’t be in the hall after lunch. Boom! Get it?’

Rhone’s three handwritten notes were found under the doors of a classroom, the library, and the media center. Surveillance cameras at the school captured the images.

How old is Johnna Rhone ?

She is 59 year old.

Charged

After her arrest, Rhone was charged with making a false threat of terrorism, a felony that could result in the teacher serving twenty years behind bars if she is convicted. The motive for the bizarre crime has not been shared, although schools in the area have been hit by multiple false alarms since four children were shot dead at nearby Oxford High School on November 30.

Rhone is the first teacher accused of launching such a threat.

Rhone’s attorney, Andrew Leone, denied the allegations. Rhone is a creative arts teacher who has taught the school for 21 years.

“I only read things like this and it has a simple meaning,” Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said at a news conference after the court hearing.

‘I would not want to be in school nor would I want my own son or children to be in that school. And I don’t think any parent wants his child in school when someone is making such a threat. We are all on high alert.

These are unprecedented times with unprecedented things happening ”, Lucido concluded.

Classes at Jefferson Middle School in St. Clair Shores

Throughout her time at the school, Rhone has never been subject to serious complaints or concerns raised against her by students, parents or staff, according to a statement from Lakeview Public Schools Superintendent Karl Paulson.

“This alleged behavior is unacceptable and disappointing,” Paulson said in a statement. “Lakeview is committed to providing a quality education for the students and families of our community.”

Rhone was placed on administrative leave, while the school district coordinated with local authorities to facilitate her arrest on Friday. Police said Rhone did not cooperate with them and declined to comment on the matter.

In court, as the evidence unfolded in front of the judge, Rhone was on a video conference call from inside the St. Clair Shores Police Department cell saying: ‘not true, not true, not true’ .

Shooting

If Rhone is released on bond, then she is not allowed to have any contact with anyone at Jefferson High School.

Meanwhile, parents fear sending their children to school in a ‘post-Oxford world’, Deputy Prosecutor Patrick Sierawski said in court, referring to the Nov.30 shooting at Oxford High School that killed four students and injured seven more people.

Since the deadly shooting three weeks ago, nearly a hundred children in the Detroit metropolitan area have been accused of making similar threats.

However, Rhone is the first adult: a teacher.

Someone screamed for help. Someone who may be desperate. Somebody wants a day off. But I don’t have a crystal ball to give you an exact answer as to why an adult who supervises and controls our children in the classroom would even think of doing something like this, ” Pete Lucido told reporters.

Classes were not canceled after Rhone’s arrest. Police searched the teacher’s home and said no guns or weapons were found.

Bail for her is set at 10 percent of a $ 75,000 house arrest with a GPS strap and psychological testing.

A probable cause conference for Rhone has been set for February 1.
