Athens-Clarke County Police Department spokesman Lt. Shaun Barnett told the Athens Banner-Herald that officers responded to a shooting in the 200 block of Morton Avenue in the Five Points neighborhood just before 9 p.m. on Saturday. Townley and a 30-year-old woman were shot and taken to hospital. Barnett confirmed that Townley died in hospital from his injuries.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that the suspect is a 32-year-old Dunwoody man. Barnett told the outlet that the investigation is ongoing and that police have been in contact with the suspect.
