Arrested and Charged
Sillett is charged with raping and s*xually assaulting a girl over a seven-year period, beginning when she was just 12 or 13 years old, the Winchester Crown Court heard.
After the woman went to the police, Sillett was arrested. Jurors were told that when asked, she gave an interview without comment.
Registrar Don Tait told the jury: “He [Sillett] says none of this happened and that is the problem in this case.”
Sillett claims that his successes as a coach include ‘training riders at the Olympic level, riders who became part of the British Showjumping GB Junior Team, numerous riders who have represented their country internationally and riders who frequently compete in the finals of the National Association of School Riding. ‘.
The show jumping coach is a recognized name in the equestrian world and riders trained for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The alleged attacks began when Sillett groped the girl before allegedly raping and s*xually assaulting her on several occasions, accuser Kerry Maylin told the jury.
Sillett allegedly began abusing her by touching the girl’s private parts while she was ‘gasping for air’, as she is asthmatic. The alleged victim “froze” and “pretended to be asleep,” a jury heard.
Maylin told the court that after the first alleged assault, the girl confronted Sillett, a father of two.
Describing the first alleged assault, Ms Maylin told the jury: ‘Sillett pulled the covers back, nothing was said, but he heard his heavy breathing.
She knew it was him because he is asthmatic and breathes with difficulty when he drinks.
‘The second time she … she not only froze but she was about to say’ what’s going on ‘, but they told her’ shhh ‘. What does that say to a 12 or 13 year old girl? Calm down.
After the third time, she confronted him and asked why. What was her response? “No, it wasn’t me, I haven’t entered”? No, her response to that girl was “I’m sorry, don’t tell anyone.”
A video interview recorded by the police with the alleged victim was shown to the court, in which she said: ‘She was so scared, she didn’t want to move, she didn’t know what to do.’
In the video interview
The prosecutor claimed that on another occasion, he ‘began to touch [alleged victim], took off her dressing gown, touched her breast’ before allegedly raping her.
Maylin said, ‘He told her,’ You know what you want, you know you want this.
She said, ‘No’ and ‘Why are you doing this to me?’
She took off her underwear and then raped her. Protection was not used.
In the video interview, the alleged victim, who is now a young woman, said: ‘He just started to touch me, I was so confused by what was happening,’ Why are you doing this to me, what have I done that you? what can you do to me ”
“ It just took it further. ”
The jury was told that Sillett told the alleged victim ‘you can touch me, you know that too’ but that he did not.
The girl added: ‘He would just try to convince me that I loved him.
“ There were days when he would come in and look at me in the shower and I would say ‘leave me alone, just get out.’
Describing an occasion when Sillett allegedly assaulted her, she said: ‘He was being quite aggressive.
‘There was only a pool of blood where it was. I remember that the sheets on my bed were stained, there was a lot of blood. ‘
For nine years he ran the Wellington Riding riding school, based on the Duke of Wellington’s estate near Hook, Hants, before establishing Sillett Equestrian in September 2016.
He also describes himself as a former international jumper.
The defendant denies all the charges and the trial continues.
