John Chakalos Wiki
John Chakalos Biography
Who was John Chakalos ?
A Vermont man was indicted Tuesday on charges of letting his mother drown so he could get his hands on her $7 million inheritance.
Nathan Carman, 28, faces eight charges in the 2016 murder of Linda Carman in Rhode Island in a bid for the titanic payoff.
Carman was found floating alone on a raft eight days after he and his mother went fishing in 2016 off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard.
Carman had initially told the Coast Guard that when the boat began to fill with water, he swam to the raft and called her mother, but he never saw her. Witnesses testified that they saw Carman remove the stern stabilizer tabs near the boat’s waterline, leaving holes that he tried to seal with an epoxy stick.
Carman’s relatives also accused Carmen of killing her mother and her grandfather in an attempt to obtain her large inheritance.
In 2013, Vermont police named Carmen as a person of interest in the mysterious death of John Chakalos, who died at his home in Windsor, Connecticut after being shot three times in the head.
Federal prosecutors in Vermont say that according to the unsealed indictment, in 2013, Nathan Carman shot and killed his grandfather John Chakalos at his home in Windsor, Connecticut. The unsealed indictment says that in 2016 he killed her mother Linda Carman and sank her boat during a fishing trip off the coast of Rhode Island.
The federal indictment alleges that both murders were part of a scheme to obtain money and property from the estate of John Chakalos and related family trusts.
Neighbors told NewsCenter 5’s John Atwater that state police and members of the sheriff’s department were among the authorities who came to Carman’s Vernon home to arrest him Tuesday afternoon.
Arrested and Charged
Police never filed criminal charges, but issued a search warrant for the then-22-year-old’s apartment saying he was the last person to see his grandfather alive: Carman dined with him the night he was killed.
The 28-year-old was arrested Tuesday and is expected to appear in federal court Wednesday in Rutland, Vermont.
William Michael, an attorney for Carman’s mother’s sisters, said the family had no immediate comment.
