“They are clearly in ruins,” she said of Madsen’s family. “They are very, very grateful for the thoughts and prayers of the entire community.”
According to Fox13 Tampa, the highway where the accident occurred was closed for approximately seven hours in both directions this morning.
The station also reported that Madsen was the third police officer killed on duty this year in the Tampa Bay area, following incidents involving officers from the Hillsborough and Pinellas county sheriff’s offices, respectively, in January and February.
