A Michigan man was arrested at the US Capitol with a fake badge, a BB gun, bulletproof vests, high-capacity magazines and unregistered ammunition.
Jerome Felipe, 53, a retired New York police officer now living in Flint, was arrested shortly after 5 a.m. Friday after parking his 2017 Dodge Charger outside the Capitol.
She had a fake badge that said ‘INTERPOL Department’ printed on it and said that she was a ‘criminal investigator, with the made-up agency, the officers said’.
Felipe gave the officers permission to search his vehicle.
Arrested and Charged

Officers discovered a BB gun, two ballistic vests, several high-capacity magazines, and other ammunition in the car.
But no real weapons were found.
Investigation
Investigators are still working to determine the reason Felipe was parked near the US Capitol, police said.
Felipe faces charges for illegal possession of high-capacity magazines and unregistered ammunition.
The latest incident on Capitol Hill follows an increase in threats and attacks.
US Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said last year that in 2021 alone there were 9,000 threats against members of Congress.
It also comes out of a series of high-profile mass shootings and just hours after President Joe Biden called for a ban on high-capacity magazines.

An NYPD spokesperson told the New York Post that Felipe retired from the force in 2018.
