Who is Jennifer Crumbley ?

Ethan Crumbley’s parents were each charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Michigan school shooting allegedly carried out by their 15-year-old son.

Arrested and Charges

The charges against James and Jennifer Crumbley stem from having purchased a gun for the teenager in the days leading up to the deadly shooting.

“You have the right to own a gun, but with it comes responsibility,” he told a news conference. “Leaving it in the hands of someone who shows signs of hurting someone is not okay, and those people must be held accountable.”

McDonald said Friday that one day of the shooting, a teacher saw drawings on Crumbley’s desk, prompting the parents to be called to the school. The drawings included an image of a semiautomatic pistol pointing to the words “thoughts don’t stop, help me” and “blood everywhere,” along with an image of someone shot and bleeding. The drawing also contained the words “my life is useless” and “the world is dead.”

When the parents met with their son and her counselor, they did not inspect her backpack or ask about the weapon, according to the prosecutor. He also said the parents refused to take Ethan home after the meeting.

“Any individual who has had the opportunity to stop this tragedy should have. The question is what did they know and when did they know it, ”McDonald said. “The idea that a father can read those words and also have access to a deadly weapon that was given to him … is criminal.”

The prosecutor added that she does not believe the charges are a “unique or unusual” interpretation of the law, citing a time when Ethan Crumbley got into trouble at school and his mother responded by text message, “… you have to learn to not be caught. ”

McDonald also said that when news of the school shooting broke, Jennifer Crumbley sent her son a text message telling her to “not do it.”

Sheriff Michael Bouchard also stressed to NBC News that it is “illegal for someone” at age 15 to “possess or carry a gun.”

“So if they participated in it, it is clearly a crime,” he emphasized.

The accused mass shooter, charged as an adult, was ordered held without bond at the Oakland County Jail on Wednesday.

“I want to make it very clear that these charges are meant to hold the people who contributed to this tragedy accountable and also send a message that gun owners have a responsibility,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a press release. Friday. “When they fail to fulfill that responsibility, there are serious and criminal consequences.”

Murder

Ethan Crumbley is already being held without bail on murder and terrorism charges in Tuesday’s riot at Oxford High School that left four dead and seven wounded in America’s deadliest school shooting of the year.

Officials had hinted for days that the parents, who told their son not to speak to investigators, could face charges.

Father

The father had purchased the semi-automatic 9mm Sig Sauer pistol that his son allegedly used just four days earlier, on Black Friday, authorities previously revealed.

The sophomore posed with him on social media, suggesting he was “freely available” at the family’s home before the massacre, Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald previously said.

Mother

His mother, Jennifer Crumbley, posted a photo online about using the gun, saying “Mom and son’s day trying out their new Christmas present.”

Crumbley even had it in her purse when he and his parents were brought in to speak with school officials Tuesday about the unspecified “disturbing” behavior of his son, just hours before the murder spree. authorities said.

McDonald had said Thursday that “actions on behalf of Mom and Dad go beyond negligence.”
