Who was Jeff Gladney ?
NFL cornerback Jeff Gladney has died in a car accident at the age of 25, his agent confirmed.
The Arizona Cardinals star was killed early Monday morning, agent Brian Overstreet told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, but no further details have yet been provided.
Gladney played one season with the Minnesota Vikings before signing a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
“We are asking for prayers for the family and privacy at this very difficult time,” Overstreet told the local outlet.
Death
Gladney was 25 years old at the time of his death.
His friend and his former teammate Jalen Reagor also spoke out about the soccer pro’s death.
“I lost my brother, my best friend, my right hand… there’s not much more I can take, dammit!” Reagor said on Twitter.
“R.l.P Jeff Gladney, brother please take care of me.”
Another former teammate, LJ Collier, said, “I watched him go from scouting team to team captain and then to a first-round pick. Jeff was a good friend and a great teammate.”
Gladney was a first round pick by the Minnesota Vikings during the 2020 NFL draft.
Statement
The NFL released a statement on his death on Twitter saying, “The NFL family mourns the tragic loss of Jeff Gladney and we express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
This occurs when Gladney was apparently getting her career back on track after going through legal trouble.
He left the Vikings after a Dallas grand jury indicted him on two counts of felony assault.
However, he was found not guilty as charged, prompting him to sign a one-year contract with the Cardinals.
Gladney was playing for the Arizona Cardinals at the time of his death.
Gladney met Reagor and Collier while playing together at Texas Christian University.
The cornerback was a four-year starter at TCU.
