Who was Jason Lamont Harrington?
An 18-year-old was killed in a shooting at the Baymont Inn in Sanford, where Southern Lee High School students were finishing their education.
Sanford police said Jason Lamont Harrington of Sanford was found in the hotel parking lot with gunshot wounds Friday night.

He was taken to Carolina Central Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“We were here, I was in room 210,” said a witness. “All the children were in room 116. I went to my room, but there were between 15 and 20 children in the parking lot.”
Police said a father had rented his son a hotel room for a graduation ceremony.

“I heard two shots: I looked out the window and saw the guy behind my car … running away,” he said.
A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with the murder. The young man was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a minor.
A witness to the shooting said he was traumatic.
“I haven’t slept all night. You think about the family [and] the parents. There was a girl who said she was her brother,” added the witness.
The teenager is currently in a juvenile detention center in Raleigh.
The Southern Lee 2021 class concluded Friday night at Cavalier Stadium.
Sanford Mayor Chet Mann said he was deeply saddened to learn of the shooting.
“It is tragic and unacceptable to include people of this particular age,” Mann said in a statement. “Please plan safe and supervised graduation ceremonies. Never support the idea of never leaving minors alone in a hotel room at a graduation ceremony. The consequences are tragic. ”
