Former Top of the Pops host and BBC radio host Janice Long has died at the age of 66.
Long died at her home on Christmas Day after a “brief illness” with her family, her agent confirmed.

“She told a brilliant story and she always made you laugh out loud with her sharp wit. She will leave behind her husband Paul and her two children, whom she thought of the world.”
“Janice loved the BBC and started her career as a station assistant at BBC Radio Merseyside in 1979, to be completed with the great folks at BBC Radio Wales.
“Janice wanted her to know that she was very grateful to the NHS and to everyone who cared for her there.”
Long’s career spanned five decades in which she became the first woman to have hers of her own daily show on Radio 1, and the first woman to regularly host Top of the Pops.
She also hosted the breakfast show on Greater London Radio and XFM, as well as being one of the main hosts for the Live Aid benefit concert in 1985.
“She was long admired for her role as a talent scout and new music champion, giving Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Amy Winehouse their first radio sessions, as well as paving the way for radio and television presenters from across the industry. .
