Irwin Rivera Biography
UFC bantamweight fighter Irwin Rivera has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder after stabbing his sisters, according to an arrest report from the Boynton Beach Police Department. Although jail records show Rivera faces first-degree first-degree murder charges, the police report indicates that both victims survived the attack.
The affidavit states that police were called to a residence shortly after 3 a.m. Jan. 7 following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival they found a woman who told them that her brother had stabbed her and her sister.
The affidavit continues: “In an interview recorded under oath, [Rivera] admitted to stabbing his two sisters. … [He] believed that he had killed his two sisters and said that he did it because it was his purpose, that he told him a higher power. ”
Both victims were taken to Delray Medical Center, but their status is unknown at this time.
On Thursday, Rivera was booked into the Main Detention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to jail records. If he is found guilty, Rivera could face life in prison or the death penalty. Heavy reached out to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, but no information was available at the time.
Rivera (10-6) has fought in the UFC three times, going 1-2 in promotion. His last fight took place in September 2020, losing a split decision to Andre Ewell.
