Her ex-husband, Igor, had been sentenced to life in prison in a high-security Russian jail for commissioned killings 13 years ago.
Vladimir Putin had promised a prominent human rights activist that he would forgive and release him, but he has yet to do so.
This latest event in the family prompted calls from an exile today for an investigation into her death.
Several Russians have died in suspicious circumstances or faced attacks in Britain.
A prominent London exile, Evgeny Chichvarkin, said today: “I am very hopeful that UK special services will investigate this case properly, thoroughly and perhaps one day we will know what happened.”

She said: ‘She was coughing, they said, taking antibiotics, and she hadn’t felt well for a few days. No Covid,
They found her sleeping on the sofa in her home in London.
I mean, they found her dead.
The police were not called, but the London Ambulance Service did attend, confirming to MailOnline: “They called us at 7.11 pm. M. From November 12 to receive reports of an incident at a residential address in Cottesmore Gardens, W8.
‘We sent an ambulance team and two doctors in cars. Unfortunately, one person died at the scene. ‘

Izmestieva had been photographed at an event with Prince Harry in 2012, along with her daughters, by the imprisoned former senator, who represented Bashkortostan, an oil-rich country.

Chichvarkin, a mobile phone mogul before setting up a wine company in exile in London, said Izmestyev had been close to Putin but became embroiled in shady business and politics.
“In early 2005, Putin gave him a golden metronome,” he said.
But the gang members testified that he had been linked to ordering “multiple murders.”
Izmestyev fled to London, but was lured to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, under the pretext of a business trip, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, where he was arrested in a clandestine FSB operation and transferred to Russia.
He had taken his fortune out of Russia and a dispute over this may have stopped his release from jail, he claims.
He had been convicted of leading a gang that committed murders shortly after the collapse of the USSR.
Investigators linked him to two ‘terrorist attacks’ and 14 murders and five assassination attempts.
A video of him appeared from inside the White Swan high security prison in the Perm region.
In 2018, the highly respected director of the Helsinki Human Rights Group in Moscow, Lyudmila Alexeyeva, indicated that Putin had signaled that he would pardon Izmestyev.
