Who was Ionut Elvis Tacu?

Ionut Elvis Tacu, known as Elvis, was killed in a park in Yiewsley near Uxbridge, northwest London, on the night of December 30.

He was the 30th teenager to be killed in the capital in 2021, bringing the appalling death toll to its highest level since World War II.

Charged

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has appeared in Ealing Juvenile Court on charges of murder.

Elvis’s devastated mother, Mihaela, who did not want to give his last name, said: ‘I brought him here when he was seven years old to give him a better future; he now he will return to Romania in a coffin.

Elvis had lived in West Drayton with Mihaela, her husband, and her three-and-a-half-year-old brother.

Claudia Martonfi, who created the fundraising page, wrote: ‘The family is devastated and there are not enough words to comfort them, when most of us were preparing to celebrate a New Year, their world fell apart with the death of their son.

The family wants Elvis’s body repatriated and buried in his home country, Romania.

‘The little one misses Elvis a lot and always asks about him. How the hell can you explain to a child that his older brother was murdered and that he will never see him again?

GoFundMe

A GoFundMe page created by a family friend to raise funds to bring her body back to Romania has raised over £ 10,000.

Mihaela said her son “loved music, watching movies and playing a lot with her younger brother.”

She added: ‘If it had been an aggressive kid, or in a gang or something, maybe we wouldn’t be so devastated.

‘I feel like I want to flee this country and go back to Romania with my son that I still have.
