Ian Maxwell, 65, who was given five minutes yesterday on Radio 4’s Today show, said: “These were Epstein’s crimes and he is not here to pay that price, and she had to pay the price that he should have paid. ”
He added, “My own opinion is that Ghislaine had nothing to do with it.”
Presenter Mishal Husain challenged him repeatedly, noting that the jury believed the testimony of the accusers.
Lord Vaizey, a former culture minister, called the BBC’s coverage of the conviction “quite poor.”

The dispute came hours after the corporation apologized for inviting “constitutional expert” Alan Dershowitz to discuss the verdicts on television, despite the fact that he was implicated in the scandal as a former friend and attorney for Epstein.
The 83-year-old Harvard law professor has also been accused of s*xual abuse by Virginia Roberts. He denies the claims.
