Holly Fitzwater, originally from Fife, became addicted to the class A drug at just 20 years old.
She told the Daily Star: “I started taking heroin when I was around 20 years old. I had my son with me, I was single and alone, and one day I met (a man) who introduced me to the drug.
“And unfortunately from then on it was a horrible downward cycle.
“I decided to clean up last Christmas, Jake and I were in a homeless flat in Fife, 6 Christmas presents, almost no food at home, it was dingy and dark.
“I remember lying in bed turning to him and saying we can’t do this another year, we’ll be dead before then, and that’s when we moved to Perth, got the house in 27 days and started our journey.
Holly added: “The most difficult part was staying in Fife
Holly added: “The hardest part was staying in Fife, when you’re still in your home area and everyone around you is an addict or a drug dealer, it’s impossible to get clean.
“You will meet them on the street and they will offer it to you, you cannot escape.”
Holly and Jake documented their dramatic transformation in a TikTok video, which racked up almost 3 million views.
Holly said: “Luckily Jake and I have never shot [heroin] or I really think we’d both be dead by now.
“I was a homeless addict from Glasgow for seven years, now I have turned my life around and married my soul mate”
“We looked dirty, we didn’t eat, we looked so sick, and we wouldn’t see it if we looked in the mirror and thought we looked great back then.
“I have worked very hard and now I see my son whenever I want. I just made him stay for the weekend, the person who took care of my son, I can’t thank him enough for all he has done.”
TikTok users praised the couple for their transformation.
One comment read: “I don’t know you guys but I just want to say I’m so proud of you and you guys should be so proud.
“Your son will grow up to realize your strength.”
Another said: “Getting over addiction is hard to do, staying with it is even harder.

“I hope he continues.
