A police officer was shot to death during a shooting with a suspect trapped in a home where two women were found dead and a child was shot in the face in a suburb of Atlanta Tuesday night.
The shooting in Rex, southeast of the city, occurred around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday and left a 12-year-old boy in critical condition after being shot in the face, and a second officer recovering from a gunshot wound. bullet in hand. .
The murdered police officer was later identified as Field Training Officer Henry Laxson. He is the third Georgia police officer killed in the line of duty in the past month, and the eighth this year.
Police said last night they received three reports prior to the shooting.
The first notice was a shooting from a vehicle near the 3600 block of Jervis Court in Rex; the second noticed that there was a motionless woman in the courtyard, which changed the call to a shooting; and the third, warning a young man, was shot in a secondary location.
A video of a Ring doorbell in the neighborhood, obtained by WSB-TV reporter Ashli Lincoln, captured the moment when at least a dozen shots were fired in what residents say is a normally quiet neighborhood.
According to witnesses, the suspect who died was not working alone. They told CBS 46 that there were at least two men shooting at the officers.

“ I heard like a series of shots and then probably, maybe like a couple of minutes later, I heard like … it was kind of a shooting, ” resident Carrington Green told Fox 5 Atlanta, and another told CBS 46 that the bullets hit his house and several of his neighbors’ houses, smashing windows and perforating walls.

They were received at the scene by the bloody 12-year-old boy who managed to direct the officers to a residence where the gunman was staying, and a woman was found immobile in a courtyard.
“While trying to locate the juvenile victim and assist the victim, officers were shot from an unknown location,” said police spokeswoman Sgt. Julia Isaac said in an emailed statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The gunman then withdrew to the residence and was confronted by other officers who had approached the house from the rear.

Later, he said, officers entered the home and discovered two women who appeared to have been shot and killed before officers arrived on the scene.
Clayton County Police have since confirmed that the two women were involved in a domestic dispute with the assailant, the same domestic dispute for which they were originally called to the scene.
Alex Chandler, right, another police officer on the scene, was shot in the hand.
The 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition, early Wednesday morning.
Roberts said he could not yet confirm the names of the victims because his closest relatives had not been informed.
The suspect in the shooting also has not been identified as of Wednesday morning and an investigation is underway.
As of Wednesday morning, no other information has been released about what led to the violent shooting.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now conducting an independent investigation into the shooting and plans to conduct an autopsy on the shooter.
They were seen gathering evidence at the scene Wednesday, and once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
In his press conference early Wednesday, Roberts said
In his press conference early Wednesday, Roberts said: ‘These men and women do honorable work every day … and it is unfortunate that we have to do these reports over and over again.
“My heart aches for every cop and his family who go through this kind of thing. These things just shouldn’t happen. ‘
Laxon was a veteran officer and member of the county tactical team. He was praised multiple times, according to the Clayton County Police Department Facebook page.
He had been promoted to his current position only a month before the deadly shooting.
