Who is Harvey Marcelin?

Harvey Marcelin, a trans woman, was arrested late last week on charges of concealing a body and could soon face enhanced charges after she was allegedly caught on surveillance cameras dumping a body near her Cypress Hills apartment.

Sources identified the victim as Susan Leyden, formerly of Teaneck, New Jersey, and said Marcelin knew her.

Leyden’s headless torso was stuffed into a garbage bag and dumped in a shopping cart in Brooklyn, sources said. Last Thursday, a passerby made the grisly discovery on Pennsylvania and Atlantic avenues in Brooklyn around 1:45 a.m. when she looked inside the garbage bag.

Police said the female body was found inside the bag with no head or limbs and did not appear to be decomposed.

A search warrant at Marcelin’s home turned up a ‘human head’, along with power saws that Marcelin purchased at a nearby Home Depot.

CCTV Footage

On Monday, an amputated leg, which had been severed from the knee down and was still wearing a sock, was sticking out of a discarded tire four blocks away. It is believed to belong to the same woman as the torso.

By reviewing surveillance footage, police were able to track down a woman who was seen dumping the garbage bags, a source told the New York Daily News.

Leyden was last seen alive on Feb. 27 when she entered Marceline’s apartment while she was carrying a “multicolored bag with a flower decal on it,” according to prosecutors. Marcelin was seen leaving the building with the same bag three days later.

Leyden’s murder is the third murder Marcelin has been linked to.

Charged and Arrest

On April 18, 1963, Marcelin was arrested for shooting her then-girlfriend, Jacqueline Bonds, three times inside her Manhattan apartment, The New York Post reported.

Marcelin was sentenced to 20 years to life and was paroled in 1984, according to state prison records.

She then fatally stabbed another girlfriend, put her body in a bag and dumped it on the streets near Central Park.

Marcelin was arrested in 1986 and convicted of manslaughter. She was released from the Cayuga Correctional Facility in upstate New York in 2019.

Before her release, Marcelin admitted during a parole hearing that she had “a problem with women,” the Post reported.

Marcelin is currently in custody and being held without bail at Riker’s Island.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office said the case is still under investigation.
