Gregory Ramos Wiki

                      Gregory Ramos Biography

Gregory Ramos was a college high school student when he strangled his mother to death after an argument over a bad grade. On Friday, Ramos appeared before a judge and said that he accepted responsibility for his crime and apologized to family members.

“Because of my actions, I will never really get to know my mom,” Ramos said. “I have not only stolen my mother, but I have also stolen her from everyone else. From my stepfather, I took the other half of it, from my aunts and uncles, I took a lifelong sister and friend, from my grandmother, a daughter ”.

“I have done irreversible damage to the world and to them,” said Ramos, who is now 17 years old. “Why did this happen, why would he have done this? I refuse to make excuses for myself, I can only ask for forgiveness. ”

During the sentencing hearing, which was broadcast by Zoom, Circuit Judge Sandra Upchurch sentenced Ramos to 45 years in prison for first-degree murder for the murder of his mother, Gail Cleavenger, 46. The jail time for that and other charges was specified in a settlement reached last month in which Ramos pleaded guilty to the charges.

Charge – Detained Ramos

Ramos, who was an Orange City police scout at the time of the crime, was also sentenced to 15 years on the charge of abuse of a body and five years on the charge of manipulation, under the plea agreement that also required that he Ramos fulfilled all the prayers at the same time.

Ramos received credit for the 800 days he spent in the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Because Ramos was a minor at the time of the crime, he cannot be sentenced to life in prison without any possibility of release. Ramos will receive a sentence review from him after he serves 25 years in prison, at which point he could be released. Ramos would have received that review if he had been convicted at trial.

The settlement also calls for Ramos to be sentenced to life probation, but he can seek early termination of that probation after 10 years. And the state can object to the early termination of probation and, ultimately, it will be up to the judge if he is released early.

Ramos killed his mother, Gail Cleavenger, 46, at her home at 35 Alicante Road in DeBary on November 2, 2018, after an argument over a poor grade. She later buried her body behind a nearby church, investigators said.

State Attorney R.J. Larizza has previously said that he believes Ramos was the youngest person to be charged with murder as an adult on the circuit since he was elected state attorney in 2008.

It took Ramos about 30 minutes to strangle his mother with his bare hands, investigators said.

Ramos then placed her body in a wheelbarrow, pushed it outside, and loaded it into the family van. He drove to the Holly Hill area before turning around to bury the body behind the church.

After killing and burying his mother, Ramos called his friends Dylan Ceglarek and Brian Porras to help him organize a robbery at his home in an attempt to cover up the crime, investigators said.

Ceglarek, 19, and Porras, 20, were later charged in the case as adults as an accessory to first-degree murder. They were not present when Ramos killed his mother.

Investigation report

A judge said Ramos’ sentence would be reviewed after 25 years and that he would remain on probation for the rest of his life once he is released from prison, according to the outlet.

Ramos pleaded guilty last month to charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

He was only 15 years old when investigators say he strangled Cleavenger with her bare hands after she confronted him about a D rating he had received.

He then used a wheelbarrow to transport her body to a truck before burying her under a fire pit in a church, authorities said.

Ramos and two friends later portrayed the home as a robbery, authorities said. The friends each face up to 30 years in prison if convicted of being an accessory after the fact of a premeditated first-degree murder.
