Gordi traveled to the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park to perform the Advance Australia Fair ahead of the box office clash on Sunday night.

But Gordi was quickly subjected to backlash on Twitter for her performance, which included her accidentally singing outdated lyrics to ‘young and free’.

The 28-year-old singer has spent her 20s balancing her growing music career with medicine after studying to be a doctor.
Gordi, whose name is Sophie Payten, resigned from her position as a resident junior physician at Prince Of Wales Hospital in June 2020, planning to tour with her new album.
But as the coronavirus pandemic spread across the country, Gordi took a break from her musical schedule to help out on the front lines as a doctor.
“She would welcome the opportunity to come back in parts at a time,” she told NME in June.

“But I’ve spent the last eight years of my life doing music and medicine at a million miles per hour; for once in my life, it’s really nice to focus on music.”
She was on duty in Victoria when a second deadly wave of coronavirus infections swept through the state.
“If the COVID clinics open, I’m on the first response team in Victoria, which means that if a whole department gets COVID in a hospital, they will fly on this cover team for two weeks,” he explained at the time.
Gordi also documented her work in front of her on her Instagram page, where she usually posted about music recordings and tour dates.

“Recently, I’ve been the medical equivalent of gap filling,” she wrote on her Instagram in September.
“Victorian hospitals are having a large number of staff on leave, which means that because they have been exposed to Covid-19, they have to go and isolate themselves for two weeks.
‘This means a huge staff shortage, so I’ve been filling in the gaps where I can.
“Health workers are stressed and working outside their comfort zone.”
She also marked Christmas by sharing a photo of herself wearing her uniform, writing, ‘Merry Christmas, queens thank you for everything.’
Before her performance, Gordi revealed that it would be the first time that she sang the national anthem at a major event.
“The last time I sang the national anthem in front of a crowd it was for about 30 people at Morris Park in Canowindra when I was 11 years old,” she wrote online.

The lyrics of Advance Australia Fair were recently changed by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, changing from “because we are young and free” to “because we are one and free”.

Sunday’s final showdown was also marred by two women who were kicked out of the venue by security after disrupting play.
One of the women wore a T-shirt that read “free them all” on the front and “end systemic racism” on the back.
The controversy continued during the trophy presentation, with the local crowd choosing to boo throughout Tennis Australia President Jayne Hrdlicka’s speech.
When Ms. Hrdlicka mentioned the launch of the vaccine in Australia, the boos got louder.
The crowd continued to boo as they thanked the Victorian government.
‘You guys are a very stubborn bunch of people, but whether you’re at home or here tonight, we’re really thankful you’re here. We hope to see you next year, ”concluded Ms. Hrdlicka.
