Who was Gift of Gab?
Gift of Gab, the co-founder of rap duo Blackalicious known for their rhymes “Alphabet Aerobics,” died on Friday after battling a series of health problems.
Timothy Jerome Parker, better known by his stage name Gift of Gab, was an American rapper best known for performing in the Bay Area hip hop duo Blackalicious alongside DJ Chief Xcel. Cause of Death
Parker died of natural causes, although the rapper had recently been suffering from kidney problems, forcing him to go on dialysis several times a week.
Gab first suffered kidney failure in 2012 and ended up in the hospital for a month.
“I thought I had the flu, but then I realized that I couldn’t walk 10 steps without being exhausted,” the rapper told The Post in 2015. “I went through a lot mentally.”
The rhyming master’s condition worsened and he underwent a kidney transplant in January 2020. The following month, Blackalicious played his final concert, as the COVID-19 pandemic struck shortly after and cut off his tour.

Born in Sacramento, California, in 1971, Parker founded Blackalicious with Mosley while the couple were studying at the University of California at Davis.
After releasing a large number of EPs in the mid-1990s, the duo released the critically acclaimed debut album, “Nia,” in 1999. The follow-up, “AG2,” released the same year, included the iconic hit. from the group “Alphabet Aerobics,” which showcased Gab’s lyrical pyrotechnics.

Blackalicious gained newfound viral fame when Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, covered one of his signature hits on television in 2015. The then 26-year-old actor and hip-hop fan appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and he spat out “Alphabet Aerobics” like a pro.
“He killed Him,” MC Gift of Gab told The Post at the time. “We’re friends with [‘Tonight Show’ band leader] Questlove, and he tweeted us, telling us to watch the show. [Radcliffe] stayed in time and everything. He did a great job, he actually kind of surprised me! ”

Parker is survived by “two brothers, a sister, many nieces and nephews, countless friends and fans around the world,” according to a statement released by Quannum Projects, a Bay Area-based hip-hop collective.
