Who was Gerd Muller?
German soccer legend Gerd Muller has passed away at the age of 75, his former club Bayern Munich announced on Sunday.
The former striker was regarded as one of the best forwards to play the sport and helped his country win the 1974 FIFA World Cup and the 1972 Euro title.
Muller was also Bayern Munich’s all-time record scorer with 563 goals in 605 Bundesliga appearances and was known for his clinical final inside the penalty area.
The former footballer was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2015 when he was coach of Bayern’s second team, while he also suffered from alcoholism when he ended his playing time in 1982.

How old was Gerd Muller?
He was 75 year old.
Born in Bavaria in November 1945, Muller began his career with his home team 1861 Nordlingen, where he scored a remarkable 51 goals in 31 matches between 1962 and 1964.
He later joined Bayern Munich and was part of one of the German club’s best teams alongside fellow international legend Franz Beckenbauer.
Muller helped Bayern rise to the German top flight in his first season with 33 goals in the second division, and success in the top flight would follow.
Speaking about his passing, Bayern president Herbert Hainer added: ‘Today is a sad and black day for FC Bayern and all their fans. Gerd Müller was the best striker who ever lived, and a good person, a personality in world football.
‘We are united in deep grief with his wife Uschi and her family. Without Gerd Müller, FC Bayern would not be the club we all love today. His name and the memory of him will live on forever. Wikipedia
