Gail Metwally, now facing attempted murder and other charges, was caught on camera sitting with a book on her lap as her Elkton home burned down.

A Maryland woman was captured on dramatic video looking fresh as a cucumber on a lawn chair as her house slowly caught fire; the burning police said she intentionally set herself on fire while someone else was inside.
“She just lit the trash can on fire!” an unidentified man narrates in the video as the flames begin to spread inland. Oh my gosh, this is not happening right now! She lit up the damn house! Oh Lord! Actually, I can’t believe my eyes. I really can’t believe it, and she’s sitting there just relaxing, watching the house go up in flames! ”
He continues: “As if, I’m watching the shit fall off! Oh my gosh, this is it, this has now turned into something serious, serious! Moments later, the conflagration engulfs the entire structure, spewing thick clouds of smoke as the sirens of incoming fire trucks blare in the background.
Witnesses who heard a woman screaming from the basement rushed to hell and helped her escape, the Delaware News Journal reported. Metwally was one of the four residents of the house. Two others were not in the home when it was set on fire around 1 p.m. On Thursday, firefighters said.
Cecil County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested the alleged fire bug near the scene, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. She was accused of setting multiple fires inside the house before going for a walk and observing her work from the chair and then walking away from her.
Metwally was charged with attempted murder in the first and second degree, arson in the first degree, assault in the first degree, two counts of malicious burning, two counts of malicious destruction of property, and two counts of reckless danger. She was being held at the Cecil County Detention Center, awaiting a district court hearing. She is investigating a possible motive for the fire and her relationship to the rescued woman was unclear.
