The remains of Karena McClerkin have been found after she has been missing since 2016
Flint Farmer, 57 was arrested in July on murder charges in connection with McClerkin’s remains.
In Indiana on July 19, the Kokomo Police Department discovered the bones of McClerkin, who has been missing since 2016.
However, the circumstances around how McClerkin died are still unclear as Farmer is being held without bond, Fox News explains.
McClerkin was last seen on October 11, 2016.
She was later reported missing just two days later, and police had been searching for her thoroughly ever since.
Though it wouldn’t be until late 2021 that police finally received a tip and more information about the circumstances surrounding McClerkin’s disappearance, which ultimately led them to Farmer.
Police continued to search for what they hoped would now be McClerkin’s remains in a rural area of Indiana near Miami County.
On July 19, Kokomo Police Department officers discovered bones that were later confirmed by forensic pathologists to be McClerkin’s.
While speaking at a news conference, Kokomo Police Department Chief Doug Stout explained that they plan to continue investigating the case with the Indiana State Police, WRTV reports.
Stout also noted that they will not reveal more about the case to protect their integrity, according to WRTV.
For the McClerkin family, a healing process begins after this discovery, since they had been looking for Karena for six years.
Gerry McClerkin, Karena’s grandmother, expressed her disapproval of Indiana law enforcement’s methods of finding the then 18-year-old.
“My granddaughter has been sitting there for six years, they knew. They didn’t do anything,” she explained after learning of the bone discovery.
For her father James, it has been a process of learning to heal and cope with what has developed.
“It’s easier to cope with life if you talk. I’ve found it,” says James.
“I went underground after a while. At the beginning of the year, I started to get my life back, to do the fathering that I’m supposed to do, to be the man that I was before all this happened.”
