Felix Dean Biography
Who is Felix Dean ?
Home and Away child star Felix Dean summed up his sad descent into crime and drug abuse in a recent social media post by saying this: ‘from the good life to street fighting.’
Eighteen months ago, the 24-year-old was staying in a luxurious serviced apartment in Sydney’s CBD, while receiving $ 1,000 a fortnight from Centrelink.
By January he was homeless and his finances were under the control of the New South Wales Trustee and Guardian, who paid him an allowance of $ 150 a week.
Today, the 24-year-old faces a series of criminal charges while in pretrial detention at the maximum security Parklea Correctional Center in northwest Sydney.
Dean has been behind bars since October after he allegedly attacked a tobacconist with a hammer, the fourth time he was arrested in two years.
He faces 11 charges including assaulting the police, scuffle, assault causing actual bodily harm, being armed with the intent to commit an indictable crime, and theft.
He has already pleaded guilty to assault with intent to rob and two counts of reckless damage to property.
Court records refer to Dean’s recent addresses in Erskineville, Redfern, Randwick, Kellyville, and a Harris Park rehab clinic.
Dean was just ten years old when he got his big break on Home and Away, starring alongside Ada Nicodemou as his on-screen son VJ Patterson from 2007 to 2014.

At the same time, he attended Australia’s oldest Catholic boys ‘boarding school, St Stanislaus’ College in Bathurst, in west central New South Wales.
Dean’s most recent problems with the law began on May 23, 2020 when he booked room 3708 at the Meriton Suites Hotel on Kent Street in Sydney.
The next morning, after checking, Dean drove his Subaru WRX sedan straight through an automatic security gate in the parking lot, causing $ 7,624.93 in damage.
Dean, who did not attempt to report the incident to staff, pleaded guilty to intentionally damaging property and was given a nine-month probation order.
At the time, police noted in a statement of fact that Dean had faced nine previous charges for crimes ranging from assault to larceny. He lived in an Airbnb.
Dean’s next serious brush with the law came when he attacked an Uber driver and broke another man’s window earlier this year.

By then he was homeless and was sporadically staying in hotels around Sydney, while the NSW Trustee and Guardian had been appointed to control his finances.
That agency paid for his lodging, while he retained an investment property in Botany that was leased and the rent of $ 330 went into his trustee account each week.
Dean had been drinking with a friend in a park behind King Street in Newtown when a resident saw him urinate outside of his unit shortly before 9 p.m. on January 6.
When the resident yelled: ‘Come on friend, people live here, what are you doing?’ Dean laughed and replied, ‘You want a fight?’
After the man dialed Triple Zero and showed the unemployed actor his phone screen, Dean took a bottle and smashed one of his windows.
About an hour later, Dean was stopped on a trail on nearby Erskineville Road when an Uber driver passed and turned onto Wilson Street.
Dean ran in front of the vehicle, hit the hood, opened the car door and started hitting the driver’s head and face.
“Get out of the car, fucking shit,” Dean told the driver, who kicked him in the abdomen, closed the door, and drove off.
The attack on the Uber driver was caught on CCTV and Dean pleaded guilty in May of this year to assault with the intent to steal and intentionally destroy property.
Dean’s next encounter with the police occurred on the afternoon of September 18 in Paddington when he allegedly failed to comply with a Covid-19 address.
According to police, Dean then assaulted a high-ranking officer by kicking him in the leg. He has yet to present pleadings for those two alleged crimes.
After that incident, Dean was granted bail on strict conditions, including that he comply with the curfew at 6:00 p.m. and was subjected to random drug and alcohol tests.
Arrested and Charged
Dean was then arrested near the TSG tobacconist on Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, shortly before midnight on October 11.
Police allege that Dean attacked the tobacconist with a hammer and assaulted another man after stealing an iPhone from the store.
The tobacconist suffered minor head injuries and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
Dean was denied bail and has been in custody ever since.
He has not pleaded guilty to one count of assault resulting in actual bodily injury, two counts of common assault, larceny, scuffle, and being armed with a weapon to commit an indictable crime.
All of the charges were brought up in Downing Center Local Court on Wednesday when Dean’s attorney requested a stay until December 7.
Dean referred to himself as a ‘work in progress’ in a social media post made in August, before the two most recent arrests of him.
“From the good life to street fighting to find my feet,” he wrote on Facebook. “Underestimating me, at least that makes us two.”
Dean hasn’t had an acting credit since he left Home and Away when he was 17 when Matt Little replaced him on the full-length soap opera.
At the time, her on-screen mother, Nicodemou, said that she viewed Dean as a ‘surrogate son’ after their years on the show together.
Dean was nominated for Best Young Actor at the 2008 and 2009 Inside Soap Awards for his portrayal of VJ Patterson. He completely disappeared from the limelight after the concert.
