Fatoumatta Hydara Biography

Father and husband Aboubacarr Drammeh, 40, returned to the UK from the US yesterday after their two daughters died in the fire at Clifton, Nottingham.

Her mother, Fatoumatta Hydara, 28, was rushed to hospital after a fire broke out in her first-floor apartment around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Mr Drammeh, who arrived at the scene around noon yesterday after flying back from the US, told the Times: “I’m just grieving.” I have come directly from the airport and now I am going to the hospital to see my wife. I don’t know what happened here.

‘This is so annoying. I have not begun to accept what has happened.

A source told Sky News that Drammeh had rushed back “to be at his wife’s bedside”.

She was seriously injured in the horrific fire and was on life support at Queen’s Medical Center but she died this morning, two days after her daughters.

Her two daughters, one-year-old Naeemah and three-year-old Fatimah Drammeh, were taken to the same hospital but tragically died shortly after arrival.

Flowers left at the scene of the fatal fire in Clifton, Nottingham, after the fire on Sunday.

Police released heartbreaking footage showing the two girls happily playing and laughing together before the horror fire.

A fire and police investigation concluded that the fire was started deliberately and Nottinghamshire Police launched a triple murder investigation. A 31-year-old man, also from Clifton, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday and police were given more time to question him.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are dealing with one of the most horrendous crimes - the deaths of two young children and their mother.

Family

“This is a deeply disturbing tragedy and I can only imagine the pain of the family. They include the woman’s husband and the father of the two children, who was not in the UK at the time of the fire.

He and other family members are being supported by specially trained officers at this incredibly difficult time and we ask the media to give them privacy as they deal with this incredible loss.

“This has been an extremely traumatic event for them, and I would like to assure them that we are doing everything we can to provide them with the justice they deserve.

‘To achieve this, a large team of detectives have been working long days and nights to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

‘Several specialists have also been examining the scene and this is likely to continue for some time. This is now being treated as a triple homicide.

Police have said that high visibility patrols will be based in the area in the coming days to offer peace of mind to local residents.

DI Sinski added: ‘The local community has been shocked and deeply saddened by the events of the last two days and I want to thank those who live in the area for their patience and understanding as we gather evidence at the scene.

I also want to thank those who have already come forward, but I urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, to contact us.

“We would like to speak specifically to anyone who has been in or around Fairisle Close between 12 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.”

Rob Perkins, headmaster of The Milford Academy in Clifton, where Fatimah attended nursery school, paid her a moving tribute.

He said: ‘Our entire school community was incredibly shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic events that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“We are just beginning the painful process of coming to terms with what happened and the heartbreaking realization that two young children and a mother have lost their lives.

We now know that one of these children was a former student here at Milford and our thoughts are with the family and all those affected by this terrible event.

‘Fatimah was a friendly, cheerful and determined member of our nursery. Her cheerful personality ensured that she would make friends wherever she went, and she loved being hugged.

“Fatimah was at her happiest with a paintbrush and a glue stick in her hands, creating her next masterpiece.

Everyone could hear her infectious laugh as she glided around the garden on the three-seat bike: she loved the outdoors.

‘Our nursery won’t be the same without her and she will be sorely missed by all.’
