August 5, 2021, Tróia Peninsula, Portugal

Police said the teen had been traveling on uneven terrain when the bike rolled backwards and fell on top of him. Firefighters had to remove him from the wreck before medics tried to revive him, but his efforts were in vain and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘The accident happened at the family home. The quad was not on a public road and his was the only vehicle involved, ” an official told the Portuguese media.

However, the respected Portuguese daily Jornal de Noticias reported that Emilio was leaving the property on his quad when he had his fatal accident.

It is believed that he lost control of the vehicle during the maneuver to leave the family villa and ended up on a public road with the quad on top after falling, the newspaper reported. It is said that his grandmother raised the alarm.

The body of the adolescent has been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of the city of Santiago de Cacém for an autopsy. Ballack has not yet made any official comment.

Emilio was half of Ballack’s three children: he was born in 2002 to his then-girlfriend Simone Lambe, whom Ballack would marry in 2008 but divorce in 2012. The eldest son, Louis, was born in 2001 and the youngest, Jordi, in 2005.
