Emilie Oldknow Biography
The former head of the Labor government is among 21 people suing the party for defamation over a leaked internal report on handling anti-Semitism allegations.
An 860-page report on the Labor government and legal unit was leaked in April last year, finding no “evidence” that anti-Semitism was handled differently from other complaints.
The internal investigation carried out in recent months by Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership found that “factional opposition” towards the former leader contributed to “a litany of mistakes” that hampered efforts to address the crisis.

Jonathan Ashworth and Mark Lewis of the firm Patron Law
The claims are believed to be for defamation, as well as for alleged misuse of private information and alleged breach of data protection laws.
The plaintiffs’ attorney, Mark Lewis of the firm Patron Law, said in a statement: “I can confirm that 21 individuals have issued proceedings regarding the ‘leaked report.’
His request was rejected by a Superior Court judge, who heard that Labor had reached “a clear view of who was responsible for the leak” but did not want to give his “subjective opinion on who is legally responsible.”
“I do not propose to comment further at this time, except to say that a request has also been made to the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal the decision to refuse to release the identities of those who, according to Labor, leaked the report.”
At last month’s hearing, Oldknow’s lawyers said the leaked report was a “politically motivated hatchet job,” seeking to blame her and others for Labor’s “failure” to deal with allegations of anti-Semitism.
William Bennett QC said in written communications that the leaked report contained “inherently serious allegations of wrongdoing”, which, according to him, “have caused and are likely to cause serious damage to Ms. Oldknow’s reputation.”
