28-year-old forward and pilot David Ibbotson, 59, was killed when the plane they were flying in sank in the English Channel in January 2019.

David Henderson, 67, of Hotham in the East Riding of Yorkshire, was a pilot but could not fly the plane because he was on vacation in Paris with his wife.

Instead, he hired Mr. Ibbotson, even though he did not have a commercial pilot license, he could not fly at night and had an expired rating to fly the single-engine Piper Malibu aircraft.

What happened Emiliano Sala?

Argentine forward Sala and Ibbotson were killed after their single-engine Piper Malibu sank in the English Channel on a flight between Cardiff and Nantes in January 2019, arranged by Henderson with soccer agent William “Willie” McKay.

Where did Emiliano Sala died?

Alderney, Guernsey

Why did Emiliano Sala’s plane crash?

The AAIB investigation found that Sala’s body displayed high levels of exposure to carbon monoxide that had leaked into the aircraft cabin and may have affected the pilot’s judgment. Ibbotson was not licensed to fly at the time of the accident nor was he qualified to fly at night.

Sala was involved in a £ 15 million transfer to Cardiff City from Nantes FC, and was traveling between the two cities when he died.

Emiliano Sala and pilot died when the plane came down in the Channel en route from Nantes to Cardiff. London: The lawyer defending a man on trial over the 2019 plane crash that killed Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala said on Tuesday his involvement in the tragedy was “purely a paperwork issue”.

Judge Foxton sentenced Henderson to 18 months in prison for endangering an aircraft, with a sentence of three months, to be executed simultaneously, for attempting to unload a passenger.

Judge Foxton ruled at the beginning of the hearing that Sala’s mother’s victim’s impact statement, Mercedes Taffarel, would not be read in court after Henderson’s defense raised concerns about its content.

“My decision is not intended to lessen the devastating impact of the accident on Ms. Taffarel,” Judge Foxton said.

Prosecutor Martin Goudie QC had told the judge that Mr. McKay had not “pressured” Henderson to arrange the flight, and that he had done so “for financial advantage.”

However, he said Henderson had no prior convictions and was of prior good character.

Defender Stephen Spence QC told the judge that his client did not necessarily benefit from the escape and that the pressure “could take many forms.”

Spence said: “People speak highly of him as a person but, curiously, as a pilot.”

But he said the accident and subsequent trial had damaged Henderson’s reputation, freeing him from his “life and livelihood.”

Henderson was said to have been affected physically and mentally by the accident and the subsequent trial, and is now taking beta-blockers for a heart condition.

“He has also had a knock-on effect on his wife, who has been in court the entire process and is in court today,” Spence said.

‘At her age and her age, they expected a comfortable and modest retirement. Of course he now faces financial ruin.

He feels very strongly that he has completely let her down. That is something that is very, very difficult for him to bear.

Mr. Spence asked for any sentences to be suspended.

Did they ever find Sala pilot?

Striker Sala, 28, was being flown from Nantes in France to his new club, Cardiff City, on 21 January 2019 when the light aircraft being piloted by David Ibbotson, 59, from Lincolnshire, plunged into the sea near Guernsey. Sala’s body was recovered from the seabed 68 metres down but Ibbotson’s body has not been found.

Football agent William ‘Willie’ McKay had a ‘preoccupation’ with securing a pilot to transport Sala between Cardiff and Nantes in France

During the trial, the court heard how Henderson had asked Mr. Ibbotson to fly on the plane, as he was on vacation in Paris with his wife.

Ibbotson, who flew regularly for Henderson, did not have a commercial pilot’s license, a night flying qualification, and his qualification to fly the single-engine Piper Malibu had expired.

Henderson also did not have an air operator certificate (AOC), which meant that he was not legally authorized to carry travel money.

After discovering that the plane had crashed, Henderson sent a text message to several friends and colleagues telling them to remain silent, warning them that he would “ open a can of worms. ”

Ibbo crashed into the Malibu and committed suicide and committed suicide VIP! Damn disaster. There will be an investigation, ‘he texted someone.

In another message, he wrote: “Questions can be asked about his flight.”

The father of three and a former RAF officer admitted in court that he feared an investigation into his business.

He was told to the jury that he had not called Mr. Ibbotson’s wife, Nora, to which Henderson replied, “I had no number for her.”

Henderson was accused of wearing a “cowboy outfit” more focused on profit than passenger safety.

In a statement, his attorneys said: ‘Now that the case has concluded in Crown Court, Mr. Henderson wishes to formally pay his respects to the families of Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson.

“It is important to note that the Civil Aviation Authority has always accepted that the way the flight was organized and carried out did not cause the aircraft accident.”

He said that now he would be considering whether to appeal against the conviction and sentence.

An investigation into Sala’s death will take place next year.

Rob Bishton, Group Director for Airspace Safety and Regulation at the UK Civil Aviation Authority, said: “ Our thoughts remain with the families and friends who were affected by this tragic accident in January 2019.

“Illegal commercial flights pose a significant safety risk and that is reflected in today’s court decision.

“The aviation system is built on the integrity of everyone involved. Anyone operating a commercial flight must always have the necessary license and approvals. ‘
