Who is Dr Pieter Austin ?
A mother and her GP have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to overdose her severely disabled six-year-old daughter on a prescription drug.
Dr Pieter Austin, 47, allegedly gave Michelle Gough, 40, a prescription for a drug that would kill her little girl after she visited his clinic in the Greater South region of Western Australia on 17 from January.
Arrested and Charged
Dr. Austin was arrested Wednesday and charged with the same crime. He appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Both have been denied bail and will appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates’ Court on 16 February.
The well-known GP is the director of a practice in Albany, in the far south of WA.
In 2016, the six-year-old’s community joined her in raising $20,000 to pay for Masgutova’s neurosensorimotor reflex integration treatment.
The girl had “a neurological problem that affects her ability to organize her gross and fine movement patterns,” her mother said at a GoFundMe fundraiser.
“She hasn’t been able to learn to move her body voluntarily or effectively, which means she finds it difficult to eat, chew and swallow,” said Ms Gough.
‘Holding toys in her hands is almost impossible without help. When she tries to roll over, push up, or become mobile, she has little success and quickly becomes very exhausted.’
“It will be alleged that [the mother] left the appointment with a prescription from the GP for medication that was to be used to end the child’s life, and the GP was aware of the intended use of the medication,” a WA police spokesman said. .
Police allege that the six-year-old’s health deteriorated two days later as a result of administering the drug.

The prescription drug is believed to be insulin, The Albany Advertiser reported.
She was taken to a local medical facility on January 19 before being transferred to Albany Hospital, where her condition stabilized. The Royal Flying Doctor Service then took the boy to Perth Children’s Hospital.
Ms. Gough was arrested on January 28 by child abuse detectives and charged with attempted murder.
