Dr. Bharat Narumanchi Biography
Dr. Bharat Narumanchi was named by Austin, Texas police as the doctor who broke into a doctor’s office and took hostages at gunpoint before murdering a beloved pediatrician.
Police identified the victim as “Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson, White Female, 6/30/1977 “Suspect was identified as“ Dr. Bharat Narumanchi, Middle Eastern Man, 8/10/1977. ”The victim was better known as Dr. Lindley Dodson.
The confrontation and the homicide took place on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 4:29 p.m. at the Children’s Medical Group. “She had numerous weapons when she entered the building,” a police commander told a news conference.
The motive is unclear, although Narumanchi was facing a terminal cancer diagnosis and had recently tried to apply at the doctor’s office.
“She saw her at her worst when her son was sick, and she always had a smile on her face,” Karen Vladeck, whose children were Dodson patients, told the Austin American-Statesman. “She made you feel like you were the only parent there, even though there was a line of children waiting.

On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Austin 911 received a “Gun Hot Shot call” at 1912 W. 35th Street, Austin police said in a news release.
“The caller reported that a male subject entered his workplace, a doctor’s office, with a gun and had hostages inside,” the statement said.

“As the incident began to unfold, it became known that several hostages were being held within the business. Several hostages initially escaped and then others were allowed to leave, with the exception of Dr. Katherine Dodson. ”
2. Dr. Narumanchi, Who Had Terminal Cancer, had Recently Applied at the Doctor’s Office
Officers conducted interviews with hostages at the scene and “were able to identify the suspect as Dr. Bharat Narumanchi,” the statement said.
“Officers also found out that Dr. Narumanchi had been in this office a week ago and applied for a volunteer position. Dr. Narumanchi was a pediatrician who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. The hostages informed officers that he was armed with a pistol and what appeared to be a shotgun and had two duffel bags. Other than the aforementioned visit to this office, there did not appear to be any relationship or other contact between Dr. Dodson and Dr. Narumanchi. ”
The hostage negotiators’ attempts to reach Narumanchi failed.
“We know they had contact a week or two earlier when he applied for the position,” police told a news conference. “He just came in and had contact with a lot of people.” Dodson was one of them. Police said Narumanchi’s family was considering palliative care for him.

Dr. Bharat Narumanchi “completed his Pediatric residency training at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. After graduation, Dr. Narumanchi worked in the state of California as a general pediatrician, ”says a biography from St. Joseph Hospital.
“Dr. Narumanchi is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Narumanchi has served as both an outpatient and hospital physician and has successfully stabilized and treated critically ill infants and children.”
The biography adds: “Dr. Narumanchi enjoys spending time with his daughter Leela and participating in all of the great family-oriented cultural, recreational, educational, and entertainment opportunities California has to offer. Dr. Narumanchi has been an asset to the pediatric community through his advocacy for children’s health. His philosophy is to provide affordable, high-quality health care while creating a bond of trust with families so that children can be successful in life. ”
After several attempts at hostage negotiation failed, the police decided to enter the building.
“Austin Police SWAT officers entered and located Dr. Dodson and Dr. Narumanchi who died inside the building from apparent gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
Homicide investigators were called in to investigate and prosecute the scene. It appears that Dr. Narumanchi shot himself after shooting Dr. Dodson.

4. Dodson Was a Beloved Physician Who Was the Married Mother of Three
According to KXAN-TV, Dodson was married with three children.
He was 43 years old. He had a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where he graduated magna cum laude, according to LinkedIn. He studied medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.
His residence was at Vanderbilt University Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
5. The Murder Left Co-Workers & Family Members in Shock
A victim services counselor was assigned to work with families, friends and employees, police said.
The families were notified within minutes when it was discovered that both had passed away. A large crowd gathered, including some people who knew the victim.
“Some of the people in the crowd found out” that the victim and the suspect had passed away while a press conference was in progress, prompting a gasp from the crowd during the press conference, police confirmed.
The hostage negotiators’ attempts to reach Narumanchi failed. KXAN-TV’s Jody Barr wrote on Twitter that an Austin policewoman used a megaphone to “appeal to the doctor’s emotions, mentioning her family (who are at the scene) and her two dogs.” She also mentioned to a doctor also inside that APD said that she has spent her life babysitting and asked the doctor to think about it. ”
She also wrote that Austin police mentioned that the doctor “worked in California and Florida” and said that he is a “good man” who has done “noble work.”
