Who is Douglas Wright?
A man who died after being found floating in the water in Clearwater was identified as Douglas A. Wright, a partner at the Tampa law firm Holland and Knight.

Wright was born in Tuakau, South Auckland, in 1956.  From 1980 to 1983 he danced with the Limbs Dance Company and choreographed several works in the company  before traveling to New York, where he danced with the Paul Taylor Company, 1983-1987 and London with DV8 Physical Theater, 1988. Returning to New Zealand in 1989, he formed the Douglas Wright Dance Company, with which he created more than 30 important works, touring New Zealand, Australia and Europe.
In 1998 Queen’s Birthday Honors, Wright was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her dance services.
In 2000, Wright received one of the five inaugural Arts Laureate Awards from the Arts Foundation of New Zealand and in 2003 she was the subject of an award-winning feature documentary, Haunting Douglas, directed by Leanne Pooley for Spacific Films.
With the release of Laughing Mirror, Wright announced his retirement from the dance. Subsequently, however, during 2010 he prepared material for a major new group work commissioned for the Auckland Festival 2011, which premiered on March 16, 2011 at The Civic Theater as Absorbed, and in The Hague, in the Netherlands during 2013. During 2014 and 2015, he did workshops and developed material for The Kiss Inside, another major group work commissioned for the New Zealand Festival, which premiered on April 16, 2015 at the SkyCity Theater, Auckland before traveling to Wanaka, Dunedin and Nelson, followed by a tour of New Zealand’s North Island during March 2016. During 2018, he choreographed a solo M_nod by dancer Sean MacDonald, which had its premiere in the Gray Lynn Public Library room to an invited audience during July, and performed publicly at Q Theater’s Vault during Tempo Dance Festival 2018. He wrote two volumes of semi-fiction / semi-autobiography, Ghost Dance (Penguin, 2004-Best First Nonfiction Book of Montana Awards, 2004) and Terra Incognito (2006), and was also the host of an inaugural solo exhibition of his work. multimedia paintings and sculptures. Cause of Death
Wright died on November 14, 2018, at age 62, of cancer.
He called a team from Clearwater Fire and Rescue around 6 p.m. Sunday at the 1000 block of Eldorado Avenue, according to Clearwater police. They took the body ashore and took him to Morton Plant Hospital, where Wright was pronounced dead, police said.
