The distraught wife of the London head of Russian airline Aeroflot, who was arrested in Moscow on suspicion of high treason on Wednesday, said today that she fears for her safety.
Dmitry Fedotkin, 39, who has led Aeroflot’s operations in the UK for the past five years, was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly turning over state secrets to British intelligence, state media reported.
She is accused of “betraying secret information on the socio-political situation in the Russian Federation to the British intelligence service.”
Fedotkin, who could face up to 20 years in jail, denies the accusation. He has not yet been charged with any crime, local media reported.
Fedotkin’s wife, Liubov, sobbed when she told MailOnline that she had not heard from her husband since his arrest.
Fighting back tears, she said: ‘I haven’t been able to talk to him and I’ve been calling people in Russia to find out what’s going on. I just want it at home.
‘I don’t know why he was arrested. None of this makes sense. Just thinking about it worries me because I fear for her safety.

Fedotkin (left and right, on vacation) was arrested in Moscow on Wednesday while traveling back to his home country. He is expected to be detained for two months while prosecutors investigate.
The couple live in a modest semi-detached house in South West London, where they are described as pleasant by neighbors.
Mrs Fedotkin yelled: ‘I want to know what will happen to my husband, but nobody tells me anything. Sorry, but I’m too upset to say anything else. ‘
The married couple is believed to have one child, a son born in 2011.
Fedotkin has worked for the Russian state airline for the past 16 years and was first shipped to the UK in 2012, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He served as Country Manager for three years, before being promoted to Station Manager in 2015. He was previously stationed in Israel.

Fedotkin was ordered to stay in jail at Moscow’s Lefortovo Court for two months in connection with the high treason case.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in jail.

Dmitry, who is believed to have a son with his wife Liubov (pictured), was well known to passengers using the London to Moscow route.

No details have been released about the precise allegations against him.
In announcing the two-month pretrial detention period, court spokeswoman Darya Rozmakhova said a judge had “ruled to impose a restrictive measure in the form of arrest until January 10, 2021 on Dmitry Andreyevich Fedotov.”
Fedotkin was well known to regular passengers on the London-Moscow route.
