Amber Alert issued in Clayton County for a child who may be in danger
An Amber alert has been issued for an eight-year-old boy who may be in danger after allegedly being taken away by his father. A statement released early Sunday morning, April 4, by the police department of Clayton County, stated that cops arrived at the 2000 block of Brighton Trail around 8:45 pm after receiving a complaint of a domestic disturbance.
At the scene, cops spoke with the complainant, who claimed that when she went to pick up her son, identified as Djahziah Matthews, from his father, Dwayne Flemings, he fled away with the child. “The child’s mother advised the father refused to return the juvenile and sped away with the juvenile in his car at a high rate of speed,” a police statement said. The mother also alleged that Flemings made threatening statements recently about killing their son as well as himself before he would return him to her.
As per reports, Matthews was last seen in a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, with a Georgia license plate reading BLU4315. The child, who is 4 feet 7 inches tall, is said to have black hair and brown eyes. He reportedly weighs around 100 pounds. However, the detail about his clothing at the time he was with his father is not known. Reports also said that the father-son duo was last seen at 2042 Mt Zion Road in Morrow, Georgia. People with any information about this case have been requested to contact Clayton County Police at 770-477-3550.
In another unrelated incident that also reportedly happened in Clayton County, a man with a firearm was arrested Friday morning, April 2, after he allegedly took hostage his two-year-old daughter and girlfriend. The name of the suspect, who is believed to be in his late 20s, has not been released; details of the charges he may face too have not been revealed.
According to authorities, the arrest came after an hours-long SWAT standoff, which started before nine in the morning at a home along Andover Drive near Jonesboro. Before police officers responded to the scene, the woman managed to escape the hostage situation but the child remained inside. “She told them that the male subject was still inside the house and actually had a hostage inside,” Clayton County police capt Steven Palmer said.
To get the situation under control, the SWAT team was called as negotiators reportedly tried to convince the accused to surrender. Cops did not use flashbangs or any other devices as a minor was stuck inside the house with the man. However, the episode came to a peaceful end at around 11 am after police went inside the house through the back door and arrested the man, Palmer said.
A news reporter for Ch.2 WSB-TV also posted about the case on Twitter that read, “Standoff in Clayton County now over with suspected gunman in custody. SWAT officers rushed a young child away from the scene moments before the arrest.”
