Detroit Lions Wiki Bio

Detroit Lions fans have had complaints with umpires over the years, and linebacker Jamie Collins took things too far out of his own frustration.

Collins was frustrated when an official didn’t notice a Chicago Bears lineman shaking his head. Then he showed the official what he was talking about. A problem? Collins made contact with the referee and hit him with the head drawing a flag and an automatic expulsion.

Obviously, the contact with the referee was a mistake and was not intentional, but the simple fact is that a player cannot touch the referees or get close to them. That was a pretty obvious mistake on Collins’ part.

As a result, you will have to watch the rest of the game from the dressing room.

Matt Patricia Lauds Jamie Collins Addition

Speaking to reporters this offseason, Patricia was asked about Collins’ arrival on the team, and she could hardly stop talking about the impact the linebacker can have. Specifically, Patricia wasn’t sure the Lions had a chance to sign Collins, but when they did, their current and former coach were overjoyed with all that she brings to the table.

As Patricia said, she loves what Collins offers not only from a physical standpoint, but also from a leadership standpoint. That’s a big point for the Lions, who desperately needed consistent veteran influence at the roster position. Collins can come in and not only play a key role for the team on the field, but also off. That’s a key point for a job that has a pair of young linebackers in Jarrad Davis and Jahlani Tavai.

Collins’ fit with the team has already been praised, so it will be interesting to see how well he manages to show it. If Patricia is to be believed, the answer is pretty good.

Jamie Collins Thinks Lions  Win

Collins left the Patriots for the second time in his career, and this time, he thinks it’s landing with a team that is on the rise in terms of starting the process to make some noise in the NFL.

Speaking to Detroit reporters, Collins gave his opinion on where the team is and said he believes the Lions are there as a team that can take the next step.

Jamie Collins said in a teleconference with Detroit reporters that he believes Detroit is a promising team that has only been one, two or three players away.

Plus, Collins said he believes he can be the kind of veteran leader the team needs to take things to the next level.

The hope, obviously, is that Collins will be able to do just that for the team and add some depth and creation to a defense that needs him big time. Clearly, though, the appeal was there for one of the best free-agent linebackers to join the team.

Jamie Collins Stats

Collins has been a solid performer in the NFL for years. He started with the Patriots, where he met Matt Patricia, and then was traded to the Cleveland Browns for a few seasons before being released and re-signed in New England.

In terms of production, Collins has also been solid. Collins has made 577 tackles, 24.5 sacks and recorded 16 forced fumbles, as well as 10 interceptions. He has been a terror in terms of his ability to push himself out of bounds and make a variety of plays for defense.

Perhaps Collins’ only concern at the moment is his age. At 30, he’s getting a bit long for a big deal, something any team thinking of adding him will have to consider.

Collins is now off the field for the Lions, so his skills will have to wait another week.
