Dawn Peterson Biography
Who is Dawn Peterson ?
Dawn Peterson, a Queens mother of two, was shot and killed outside her home Friday.
The shooting occurred near Foch Boulevard and 155th Street in Jamaica shortly before 6:30 a.m.
A preliminary investigation found that Peterson, 39, was accosted by a man outside her home before he was shot multiple times.
Video
On Saturday, police released surveillance video of the gunman who appeared to open fire on Peterson and then drove away in a silver sedan.
Police are investigating whether Peterson knew of his attacker, CBS2’s Kiran Dhillon reported.
Unidentified Suspect
The NYPD released a 25-second video clip of the unidentified gunman, who is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and has a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket and blue jeans, police said.
Peterson’s family
Peterson’s family and friends gathered in front of his home and couldn’t contain their grief.
“She was a great girl, a wonderful woman,” said JaNean Mercer, a friend of the family. “She has two children, an 18-year-old son who is very distressed at the moment and the 3-year-old preschool girl.”
Hours earlier, Peterson was found lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to her chest and back. She was rushed to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and later pronounced dead.
It is believed that she Peterson was ambushed when she went out to start the car before going to work.
Death
Peterson was found lying in the street outside her residence on Foch Blvd. near 155th St. in southern Jamaica around 6:20 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back, police said. She was rushed to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

“I think it’s disgusting. I think it’s sad and most of all, it’s scary,” said Trisha Dupree, a neighbor.

“We are just praying. We want to know who did it more than anything. You don’t expect to wake up in the morning to go to work and not do it, “Dupree said.
“A week before Christmas. I can’t imagine what they are going through and my thoughts and prayers are definitely with them, “said another person.

So far, no arrests have been made. Police have yet to release further information on a possible suspect or motive.
