David Mora Rojas Biography
Who was David Mora Rojas?
The gunman believed to have shot and killed his children and a court-approved supervisor before shooting himself was identified as David Mora Rojas, 39.KCRA 3 learned that Rojas lived at the Church in Sacramento in the Arden area of Sacramento County, the same location where the shooting occurred Monday.
A church member who also lives at the church confirmed that he knew Rojas but did not share any other details.
In a statement, a church official said the following:
“The leadership of The Church in Sacramento is shocked and saddened by the tragic shooting that occurred in our church meeting room on Monday, February 28, which resulted in the deaths of five of our members, including three girls from one of our families.
“Our church body is devastated and heartbroken by this senseless tragedy and we ask for continued prayer for the victims, their families and our faith community as we deal with this unexpected loss and trust in the Lord for His strength in our grief.
“We continue to cooperate with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department in their investigation, are committed to ministering to anyone in need during this difficult time, and are doing all we can to bring comfort to our congregation as we come together as a church family.”
A restraining order obtained by KCRA 3 determines that the mother of the three slain girls, identified as Samarah Mora Gutierrez, 9, Samantha Mora Gutierrez, 10, and Samia Mora Gutierrez, 13, raised concerns about Rojas. her mental instability and asked a friend of hers to be present during visiting hours.
If the order included the children, he would not be allowed to see them,” said Rod Grassman, spokesman for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, adding that “this visit was facilitated between the mother and father and this other chaperone here. This was not done through law enforcement; This was not a social worker or a court liaison.”
KCRA 3 also learned that Rojas was previously arrested nearly a week before the deadly church shooting. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office said he was arrested Feb. 23 in the city of Los Banos on charges related to DUI, resisting arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Office said it was not aware of Rojas’ restraining order in Sacramento County.
When asked about this, Grassmann said, “I can’t speak to another county and what they did or didn’t know. I know restraining orders are subject and available to all law enforcement, so if that check was done , that would be seen there”.
Rojas had a five-year restraining order against him.
Through some family members, KCRA 3 learned that Rojas was working at a local Sacramento restaurant near the Church in Sacramento and was scheduled to work this Tuesday.
