Who is David Carrick ?

PC David Carrick was off duty at the time of the alleged rape, which Hertfordshire Constabulary said occurred on 4 September 2020 in St Albans.

PC David Carrick of the Met’s Diplomatic and Parliamentary Protection Command, ’emphatically denies’ attacking the woman at a Premier Inn in St Albans on September 4 last year after the couple went to take something, the magistrates heard.

The alleged victim came forward following Couzens’ life sentence for murdering Miss Everard, a 33-year-old marketing executive, the court heard.

Carrick, from whom the magistrates heard that he was Couzens’ former colleague, is currently suspended from his duties and was taken into custody to appear in St Albans Crown Court on November 1.

Arrested and Charged

Carrick, who appeared in St Albans Magistrates Court via video link and was wearing a white T-shirt, met the alleged victim on the dating site Tinder on September 4 of last year.

The magistrates were told that Carrick showed him his police warrant card and said that he worked for the Met’s firearms division and was involved in protecting important people, including the Prime Minister. He also said that he has a snake, heard the court.

Mark Fleckney, prosecutor, said: ‘They first met on September 4 last year when they went to a tavern in St Albans.

“Mr. Carrick had asked if he could go to the injured party’s home, but said that he preferred to meet him in town.”

He added: ‘Mr Carrick had asked for a bottle of wine that she does not drink, but he felt pressured to drink it as he had paid for that wine.

Then the conversation turned to what Mr. Carrick did and she confirmed that he was a Metropolitan Police officer.

In fact, she showed the injured party her identification card. She said that she worked for the firearms division of the Metropolitan Police and was guarding several important people, including the Prime Minister.

‘She confirmed that he lived in Stevenage and also owned a snake.

He told her that she wanted a “submissive woman.”

Commissioner Cressida Dick said yesterday when the charge was announced: ‘I am deeply concerned by today’s news that an officer from the Met’s Diplomatic and Parliamentary Protection Command has been arrested and now charged with this serious crime. I fully recognize that the public will also be very concerned.

“The criminal proceedings must now run their course, so I cannot comment further at this time.”

The Crown Prosecution Service has reminded anyone who speculates about the case on social media that he could be prosecuted for contempt of court.

Victim

The alleged victim came forward following Couzens’ life sentence for murdering Miss Everard, a 33-year-old marketing executive, the court heard.

The court heard that the officer took the woman to the Premier Inn in St Albans, where she was staying, where the alleged crime occurred.

Ryan Dowding, defending Carrick, said: ‘The two met on Tinder, a dating app, and had agreed to go to a pub.

“Having consumed alcohol in the pub and then going to another pub, more alcohol was consumed.

Mr. Carrick says no such sex occurred. He emphatically denies the allegations. ‘

Chief Justice Paul Goldspring, who appeared via video link at Westminster Magistrates Court, ordered the officer’s pre-trial detention.

He said: “He will be in custody until he appears before the St Albans Magistrates Court on November 1st”.

Carrick, who is currently suspended from service, is due to appear in St Albans Crown Court on November 1.

Carrick’s alleged victim came forward following Couzens’ life sentence for kidnapping, raping and murdering Miss Everard, a 33-year-old marketing executive, the court heard.

He has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.
