Darren Wall Biography
Who is Darren Wall?
Former boxer Darren Wall, accused of running an underworld “kingdom of terror” in the Philippine capital using a network of corrupt police and officials, is seen on CCTV getting out of a white truck in front of the Secret Door nightclub in Manila on March 13. in the early hours of the morning.
The 44-year-old Londoner then confronted a group of locals but was stopped by his bodyguard before his wife, Khanary Jane Abejo, 23, tried to lead him away from the group of men.
But after several minutes of confrontation, Wall can be seen hitting a man in a white tank top over the head before throwing several more punches during the fight.
His desperate wife finally managed to drag the Briton away before they got back into their vehicle and drove away.
Arrest
The attack came just days before Wall, known as ‘Jack’ for the Union Jack tattooed on his neck, was arrested and charged with leading a brutal gang involved in kidnapping, extortion, drug and arms trafficking.
Wall moved to Manila five years ago, living in an exclusive villa in a gated community called Better Living, and recently married Abejo, a glamorous ex-waitress half his age.
The pair were arrested at the same Secret Door nightclub in Manila’s Poblacion red-light district following another fight, during which Wall allegedly brandished a gun and attacked locals before being shot down by six police officers on March 23.
Detectives said he was found armed with a 9mm Beretta pistol, 11 bullets and 6g of cocaine. He was later detained at the New Bilibid Prison in the city of Muntinlupa.
Investigation
Only after he was behind bars did investigators uncover a mountain of damning evidence against him and his gang, with CCTV footage seized of him brutally beating victims who refused to pay him protection money.
Also under investigation are five officers, up to the rank of Major in the Philippine National Police, suspected of being on Wall’s payroll, making him feel ‘untouchable’ by the law.
Once news of Wall’s arrest broke, police were bombarded with calls from other victims willing to testify, certain that he was no longer protected by law.
But Ella Abejo’s wife, who was arrested for allegedly obstructing police, claimed that Wall had been defending her when the fight that led to her arrest began.
Speaking from a prison facility, Abejo said: ‘He is good to me. He doesn’t hurt me. In the disco there was a man who pushed me. My husband was angry.
‘My husband had an argument with him and that’s how the fight started. He didn’t know he had a gun. I did not see that.
When she was asked about her husband’s reign of terror attacking locals, she said: ‘I don’t know about that. I don’t go to bars with him. I stay at home. We have a son together and Darren is good to me.
