Early life and high school
Darrell Taylor grew up and played soccer his entire life in Hopewell, Virginia and attended Hopewell High School, where he played basketball and soccer. Qualified as a four-star recruit, Taylor pledged to play college football at the University of Tennessee on offers from Florida and Virginia Tech.
College career
Taylor wore a red jersey in his true freshman season. As a red-shirt freshman, he made nine tackles (one for loss) in eight games played.Taylor missed two games of his sophomore red jersey due to suspension for an altercation with a teammate.He finished the season with 27 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles. As a junior in a red jersey, Taylor led the team with eight sacks and 11 tackles to lose with a total of 36 tackles.
Taylor entered his red jersey senior year on the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List.
