Daniel Mobley, a 22-year veteran of the department, was hit by a car around 9 a.m. while responding to an accident involving another DeKalb officer near the Williams Street exit. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, but pronounced dead upon arrival, DeKalb police said. Mobley was 44 years old.
Mobley started with the department in 1998 and was described as highly respected, someone who “was routinely used as an officer in charge based on his exceptional work ethic.”
It was those ethics that led to his promotion to sergeant in 2017, a rank he held working in the department’s north-central district. His work resulted in numerous letters of commendation while serving his community.
Outside of his career, Mobley was also described as a family man and father. He also had hobbies, the department said, adding that he was a Ford fan and loved working on his cars when he had the time.
These were just a few of the stories told by DeKalb police on Saturday as they shared what they will remember most about their friend and brother in blue, someone whose life ended suddenly and too soon.

Cause of death
The tragic incident occurred when Sgt. Daniel Mobley, a 22-year veteran of the department, was hit by a car at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. According to DeKalb police, Mobley was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital but could not be saved.
According to Police Chief Mirtha Ramos, “Today is a sad day because the DeKalb County Police Department lost one of their guardian angels. We will miss him very much and our hearts go out to his family. “The chief also mentioned that the 44-year-old man came to the scene for a” supervisory investigation “and as he got out of his patrol, a car hit him. Ramos added: “The police community as a whole is suffering. We lose people every day on our roads and we just need to pay more attention,” he said.

DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond released a statement after Mobley’s tragic death that read: “On behalf of DeKalb County residents and employees and the Board of Commissioners, I express our deepest condolences and offer our prayers to the family and friends of Police Sgt.
