Who was Dallas Edeburn?

A Ramsey County Sheriff’s deputy who was found mysteriously dead on Monday, August 1, nearly died in a fire accident last year. The body of Dallas Edeburn, 30, was found in the area between his home and the patrol station after he failed to return home from work. The news comes more than a year after his survival from a fire accident.

In March 2021, a fleeing stolen vehicle from Mounds View police struck the Edeburn patrol car, causing it to roll five times. Fortunately, other officers present at the scene rescued Edeburn by dragging him to safety before the car caught fire.

“He worked valiantly to rehabilitate himself from his injuries and return to his full duty status,” according to the sheriff’s office. Additionally, the Ramsey County Board of County Commissioners said at the time that the deputy “probably would not have survived” if his fellow deputies hadn’t helped him.

During his years of service, Edeburn received several accolades for his courageous work. He once saved a woman who was about to jump off a highway bridge and was celebrated for his heroic action.

Results of a preliminary autopsy revealed no signs of trauma or injury to his body. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the manner and cause of death after completing a full autopsy. Sheriff Bob Fletcher said, “Our hearts go out to the wife, family and friends of Dallas. He was larger than life, both in his physical presence and in his service to Ramsey County.” During the March incident, Edeburn suffered serious injuries. He had two broken ribs, a deep laceration to his right elbow, a dislocated toe, and a broken right kneecap. The driver responsible for the accident was sentenced in December 2021. The deputy also appeared in court while walking with a cane. In his victim impact statement, he stated that he was newly married when the accident occurred. He said, “The defendant eliminated any possibility of having a honeymoon in a timely manner. Instead, the honeymoon was accomplished with a stay at Regions Hospital… Our marriage began with the ‘sickness and health’ phase.” ‘”.
Deputy Edeburn served the citizens of Ramsey County for seven dedicated years. He joined as a Correctional Officer in July 2015 at the Ramsey County Correctional Home. He was also a respected member of the SWAT team. The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office broke the news on Facebook and shared photos of the officer. “His commitment to his family, his associates and the citizens of Ramsey County will never be forgotten,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
