Who is Curtis Mickan?
A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly assaulting his partner and then setting fire to a house in northern Brisbane over the weekend.
Curtis Mickan, 34, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday charged with crimes including two counts of attempted murder and violation of a police protection notice.
Emergency services were called to the Eveleigh Street home in the Wooloowin suburb early Sunday morning following reports of a fire at the home.Curtis Mickan, 34, is listed as a pharmacist at in Murgon, three hours from Brisbane.The house on Eveleigh St, Wooloowin was reported to be on at 6.15 a.m. Sunday morning.Two women inside the house when it was discovered in flames managed to escape unscathed.
Who is Mickan’s partner?
Two women, believed to be Mickan’s partner and his mother-in-law, were in the home at the time of the fire, but escaped uninjured.
Police had been called to the home at 11 a.m. the night before after a riot in which the man allegedly assaulted his partner. He was taken into custody and charged with various domestic violence offenses, including assault causing bodily injury, assault, and intentional injury.
He was released early Sunday morning subject to a number of bail conditions, including not visiting Wooloowin’s address.
The fire in the house was reported at 6.15 in the morning.
Mickan was featured in the press when he took over the Amcal + pharmacy in his hometown of Murgon in the Queensland regional region in 2019.

Mickan discussed men’s mental health
In a 2019 interview for Tradies Health Month, Mickan spoke about men’s mental health as a sponsor of a free breakfast for tradies in Murgon.
“It seems like most of the companies are young or middle-aged men and that’s the age group in South Burnett that seems to have problems with mental health and suicide,” Mickan said.
‘It’s really important that we talk about early warning signs for mental health with tradies especially.
“Because you have to be able to detect when your partner or work colleague is not themselves or is not well.”
Mickan did not appear because the charges were raised in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
Attorney Tam Elabbasi did not apply bail for Mickan, who was placed in pretrial detention pending his appearance in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 14.
Outside court, Elabbasi said it was an “unfortunate incident.”
‘It’s going to take some time. It’s a totally unfortunate set of circumstances, ”Elabbasi said.
There has been some damage. Someone has lost everything. It’s awful.’
