Who was Cristina Vita Aranda ?

The model wife of a Paraguayan top flight footballer has been shot to death at a concert.

Cristina Vita Aranda, who has three children with Club Olimpia player Iván Torres, was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.

Local reports said left-back Torres, a former Under-20 international, was also at the concert and helped take his wife to hospital.

The model and influencer recently announced that she planned to divorce after 10 years of marriage.

Shooting

The pretty brunette is believed to have been caught in the crossfire of a shooting in a VIP area at the José Asunción Flores amphitheater in the Paraguayan capital Asunción, although Sunday’s shooting is still being investigated by police and prosecutors.

A man named Marcos Ignacio Rojas Mora was also killed, with unconfirmed reports saying the intended target was a drug trafficker identified locally as Ederson Salinas Benítez.

Four people between the ages of 23 and 40 were also shot and treated for their injuries at hospital today.

Iván, who began his career with Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño before signing for the club’s arch-rivals Club Olimpia in December 2014, is said to have suffered a panic attack but was uninjured.

Local television footage showed one of the victims being carried out of the amphitheater on a stretcher by security guards and paramedics, while a man who also appeared to be injured was guided towards an exit by two men helping him walk.

Death

Confirming the death of Cristina, 29, the director of the Itauguá National Hospital, Yolanda González, said: “She was intubated when she arrived and attempts were made to revive her for at least 25 minutes after she went into cardiac arrest.

“She died after long attempts to save her life.”

Vita Aranda described herself on Instagram to her 445,000 followers as her personal trainer, although she also did modeling and often referred to her as an influencer in her homeland.

She posted pictures of herself four days before her death working out at the gym.

She wrote alongside her weightlifting selfie video, “People think I go to the gym just so I can show off a good body.

“What they don’t know is that it controls stress and anxiety, helps improve my morale, and gives me physical and mental strength and confidence.”

Cristina and her husband posed together for a Christmas photo before the brunette’s recent announcement that they had decided to end their relationship.

Iván, who has not yet spoken publicly about the tragedy, wrote: “A united family and a set table, the most special thing every Christmas.”

Family

After the news of their separation, the soccer player said in a photo that he published with his children: “I have always been a very sincere person and today I feel very sad and in great pain.

“But despite that, today I am here to give my best and always fight.

“I thank my family, my colleagues and former colleagues who are supporting me in this difficult time.”

They were still husband and wife when the shooting occurred and were believed to be trying to patch things up between them.

A group called Binomio de Oro was on stage when the shooting occurred. The concert was immediately suspended.

Iván Torres enjoyed a spell in Argentina with first division Club Atlético Colón in between his time with Club Olimpia.

He returned to the Paraguayan side in 2017 following the end of his loan spell.

Olimpia today canceled its morning training after the death of Torres’ wife.

The decision was made after it emerged that another player’s wife was among those injured.

The partner of Argentine Víctor Salazar, Xoana Danila Barrientos, 29, was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the leg at the same concert.

Her condition has been described as stable.

Police Chief Benicio Ramírez confirmed that initial reports pointed to Iván’s wife, Cristina Vita Aranda, as a “collateral victim.”

He told a local radio station: “The initial theory of the police is that she was a collateral victim.

She “She was shot in the head and she didn’t survive.”
