FC superstar Conor McGregor was placed in police custody in Calvi on the French island of Corsica, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP). A statement shared with AFP by police states that McGregor was accused of indecent exposure and attempted sexual assault in a September 10 incident.
The full statement has been translated by Straits Times and reads: “Following a complaint filed on September 10 denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Mr Conor Anthony Mac Gregor was the subject of a hearing by the gendarmerie services.”
In a statement to TMZ Sports, a representative for McGregor said, “Conor Mcgregor vigorously denies any accusations of misconduct.”
The rep also stated that McGregor “has been interviewed and released.”
C News reported that the incident occurred in a bar on Thursday night in Calvi. According to the outlet, a young woman filed a complaint about the incident, accusing McGregor of exposing himself. Authorities met with McGregor on his yacht on Friday and informed him of the complaint. McGregor then went to the police station where he was placed in custody.
McGregor’s fiance, Dee Devlin, and their two children have been traveling with the fighter.
McGregor is currently retired from mixed martial arts. He last fought in the UFC in January when he defeated Donald Cerrone by TKO in the main event of UFC 246.

McGregor was supposed to take part in a water bike marathon across the Mediterranean Sea from Corsica to Monaco with Princess Charlene of Monaco and Princess Charlene’s brother Gareth Wittstock.
The marathon was scheduled for Saturday, September 12. According to a Nice-Matin report, there was no sign of McGregor at the Calvi port where the event began. It is unclear if McGregor participated in the marathon.
McGregor made headlines on Friday when USADA issued him a drug test per UFC standards. Although McGregor says he is retired, the fighter has remained in the USADA group and is subject to random drug testing. The test came a day before his scheduled marathon.

McGregor Has Had Multiple Run-ins With the Law
McGregor has a history with law enforcement. For example, the fighter was charged with throwing a dolly onto a bus in April 2018 and ordered to perform community service and attend anger management.
McGregor was arrested in March 2019 after being accused of taking a person’s cell phone and breaking it. The charges were dropped after McGregor settled with the accuser.
