Who was Clifton Bourne?

Horrified nursing home staff heard blood-curdling screams as an 87-year-old man with dementia brutally murdered his 83-year-old nursing home neighbor, it is claimed.

Clifton Bourne is said to have repeatedly struck the head of 83-year-old Lloyd Godfrey against concrete inside his Bronx nursing home on Friday.

The New York Post reported that Godfrey was found face down inside the Pinnacle Multicare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Bourne, who was drenched in the blood of his alleged victim, was arrested and charged with murder shortly thereafter.

Bourne’s dementia diagnosis was shared with the Daily News by law enforcement sources.

“There is no clear and concise reason” for the attack, a New York police spokesman told The Post on Saturday.

Bourne’s ex-wife, Elise Freeman, said she was struggling to believe that he might have murdered someone.

She told the Post: ‘I know him very well. No way, no way would I have done something like that. He is afraid of his own shadow.

They’re putting this on him. He is a peacemaker…. Where were the workers? No one saw anything?

He was 87 year old.

Suspect

The suspect, 87-year-old Clifton Bourne, was also a patient at the nursing home and is said to have dementia. The police arrested him and charged him with murder.

Investigation

The spokesperson said an investigation is underway and it is unclear whether the charges against Bourne can be modified or dropped due to his alleged medical condition.

The Alzheimer’s Society said that aggressiveness is a by-product of dementia.

‘People with dementia have the same needs as all of us. These include the need to be comfortable and pain-free, to be able to interact with other people, to feel engaged and stimulated, and to feel good about ourselves, ” the society said on its website.

But people with dementia may not be able to recognize their needs or let others know what they need, the Alzheimer’s Society said.

Your needs may be physical, including pain or discomfort from something as simple as constipation, the side effects of medications, or hallucinations or delusions.

Other needs could be psychological or social, including frustration that they cannot do what they normally could or are not listened to, misunderstanding the intentions of caregivers, or feeling isolated.

This can cause them to act in ways that others might find challenging, even aggressively. Aggressive behavior can be the person’s way of trying to get what he needs. It can be a sign of a need that is not being met or an attempt to communicate it, ‘according to his website.
