Chieh Meng Biography
Chieh Meng was an elderly Asian woman stabbed to death while she was walking her dogs on Saturday morning in Riverside, California. But investigators say they do not believe it is a hate crime.
Riverside police received multiple calls about a woman who suffered stab wounds on Golden Avenue in the city’s La Sierra neighborhood.
Chieh Meng stabbed and killed
The woman, Ke Meng, 64, of Riverside, was bleeding from the abdomen area and was taken to a local hospital. She died from her injuries.
Shortly after the attack, police began receiving calls from neighbors in the area reporting that “a transient woman was walking through her yards looking suspicious,” Riverside police said.
Suspect arrested
Officers who responded to the calls safely detained the woman, identified as Darlene Stephanie Montoya, 23, of Monterey Park in Los Angeles County.

Montoya was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder, weapons violation, and being under the influence of an illegal substance. She is being held without bail.
Police say Riverside police previously arrested Montoya on March 30 after attacking a woman with a skateboard near a mall on the 91 freeway overpass.
Officers arrested and booked Montoya in jail for assault with a deadly weapon, but she was released shortly thereafter with a “notice to appear” summons due to the current emergency bail program in place in Riverside during the Covid pandemic. -19.
Police report
“When our detectives interviewed the suspect, they found nothing to suggest that he attacked the victim because of her race,” Riverside Police spokesman Ryan Railsback said.
Police said Meng was walking her two small dogs of hers down Golden Avenue Saturday morning when Montoya randomly confronted her, attacked and stabbed her.
