The body of Charles Haeger, 37, was discovered around 4 p.m. on a trail along the southern rim of the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona, Sgt. Ben Hoster, a spokesman for the Scottsdale Police Department, said in a statement Saturday night.

Police were searching for Haeger, a suspect in murder and aggravated assault in Friday’s fatal shooting, Hoster said.
Victim Danielle Breed
The victim was identified by police Saturday night as Danielle Breed, 34. Race owned the Tipsy Coyote Bar and Grill in Scottsdale, the Republic of Arizona reported.
Earlier on Saturday, Haeger’s unoccupied vehicle was found near Flagstaff in northern Arizona, police said. Flagstaff is located 190 miles north of Scottsdale.
According to mlb.com, Haeger was a pitcher called up by the Chicago White Sox in 2001 and played 83 innings in the major leagues. His career includes stints with the Boston Red Sox, the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Hoster said investigators determined that the victim’s roommate heard gunshots when he returned to his residence on Friday and that moments later, Haeger left the victim’s room with a firearm. .
Then Haeger pointed the gun at his roommate. The roommate quickly escaped through the back of the residence and asked a neighbor to call 911, ”Hoster said in a statement.
Police found the victim dead in his room, Hoster said.
