Appearing at a press conference Wednesday, Carrera and Pineda attempted to pour cold water on suggestions that they were heroes.

Before joining the police force, 6-foot-1 Carrera was an accomplished football player, becoming the first-choice kicker for the University of North Alabama Lion’s in the 2017 season.
The fire started Monday morning when the driver suffered a medical event while parking his truck.
The police and fire department were called, and the two hero officers arrived first.

Who is Tony Farmer?
Tony Farmer, who lives next door to the apartments, witnessed the entire incident after hearing one of the loud knocks from the truck.
“I was relaxing inside and I heard a loud bang, like when the [garbage truck] comes in and hits the garbage container on the ground when they finish emptying it or a transformer [explodes],” Farmer told the Statesman. .
Then the second time it happened, I was like, ‘Woah, that’s kind of weird,’ Farmer added.
Farmer described the truck explosion as an almost cinematic experience.
“It exploded a little bit, almost like in the movies, not like a big atomic explosion, but it enveloped more about 20 seconds after [the man] was pulled out of the vehicle,” Farmer continued.
He added that he believed that the police officers involved in rescuing the man are heroes.
‘Those policemen … there is no doubt about it, they risked their lives and they are heroes. There’s no question about it, ”Farmer said.
Austin Police Department Deputy Chief Robin Henderson agreed and then took to Twitter to congratulate the officers and give them a token for their heroic deeds.
“Officers Pineda and Carrera received a token of appreciation from the chief for their heroic actions yesterday in saving a man’s life from the vehicle fire,” Henderson tweeted. Please join me in recognizing these two for their quick thinking and courage! #OneAustinSaferTogether ‘
