Who was Briana Sykes?
Briana Sykes was identified as the woman accused of shooting a Flint police officer at a traffic point in the June 16th celebration parade; the officer then shot and killed Sykes. In a press release dated June 21, 2021, Michigan State Police identified the woman who was shot and killed as 19-year-old Briana Sykes, Flint, Michigan. On Facebook, she was called Briana Brown or Briana Bhaddazz Brown. She shared a tweet from Bernie Sanders on Facebook in which Sanders called the criminal justice system “racist” due to the death of Breonna Taylor in a police shooting in Louisville.
The shooting occurred at 2:14 p.m. in the city of Flint involving an officer from the Flint Police Department, according to the statement. A friend wrote on Facebook: “R.I.P, girl. I found a longer version of the video of a passerby shooting fatal police #Flint from Saturday. The 19-year-old woman who was murdered has been identified as Briana Sykes. Sykes is accused of initiating shooting with the officer. MI State Police are investigating.

The video shows the officer standing in a car window when he opened fire. He then collapses close to the ground as other officers rush to help and passersby express great shock.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the officer, who was working at a traffic point for the June 19th celebration parade, was shot by the sole occupant of a vehicle who approached him at the traffic point. When firing, the officer returned fire and struck the suspect. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. The officer was not injured, nor was any bystander in the area ”.
Sykes “succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. This incident remains under investigation. ”
